Uno studio pubblicato sul The American Journal Clinical Nutrition evidenzia che un consumo quotidiano di circa 30gr di frutta secca (noci,mandorle,anacardi,nocciole,arachidi,pistacchi) riduce il colesterolo totale,quello “cattivo” e i trigliceridi in pazienti con ipertensione o affetti da sindrome metabolica. Altri studi hanno illustrato i benefici della frutta secca sul sistema cardiovascolare e le proprietà antiossidanti e antinfiammatorie riconducibili alla presenza di grassi insaturi fra cui gli Omega 3.
